Flying the coop

Guilty!

We are currently keeping the chicks in the garage in a cardboard box. Last week I upgraded their box to a larger version. I guess it's time to upgrade again. Tonight when I went out to the garage, Minnie (aka Trouble) decided to fly out. Luckily she was perched on a stool next to the box and didn't flee the garage.

What will I be?

I've had a few people ask what kind of chickens we got, so I thought I'd post some pictures of what our chickens should be when they grow up.

This is Millicent. She is a White Plymouth Rock. She is our biggest chick. We suspect she may be a bit older than the other two. This is what she will look like, your classic white chicken.

This is Minnie, she is a Barred Plymouth Rock. She is our most fiesty chick. She's a real pecker. No one is safe from her beak! She will grow up to be a lovely speckled hen.

Finally, we have Brownie. She is our runt. We're hoping she can hold her own with Minnie. She is a New Hampshire Red and should look like this.

Day three

Minnie getting brave

Day two

Getting used to their "home"

Brilliant!

After I posted pics of the new chicks on Facebook, Kevin said, "now you'll probably start a chicken blog." Light bulb! I said to myself, "self, who wouldn't want to see my chickens on a blog?" It is so on.
